Albert Washington Snowman was born on 29th.December, 1876,
at Jarrow on Tyne. Produces extract from birth register. His parents were Henry Snowman, born in Jarrow and Mary Annie born some. -where in England. His parents were in the ship-building trade at Jarrow.
2. The parents and child left England in 1878 and went to Hamburg and the father was engaged in shipbuilding at Steinwarder, near Hamburg, where they all lived. The yard the father was employ- -ed in was called Blohanvoss. The father and mother continually stayed here, he retired from the yard in 1907. After war was declar -ed he was allowed to leave for England where he now is, the mother is still at Steinwarder and 4 brothers are interned at the Prisoners of War Camp at Ruhleben.
3. A. V. Snowman received a German education at Steinwarder. in 1898 when he was 21 he went to Japan and was registered as a British subject at the British Consulate.He was in Japan from 1898-1903 when he went "home" to Steinwarder. In 1905 he same to Hongkong. He was then first employed in the East Asiatic Trading Company 1905-1907. In 1907 he went for a holiday to Steinwarder and returned in 1908 and then joined A Bune, and used to sign for the firm. In 1909 he left Bune and bought up the business of Lank and Rogge. (Lanke died, Rogge retired, and Koch who was in charge died at the Government Civil Hospital.) He carried on this firm under the old firm's name.
4. On July 11th., 1914, he returned home, sailing by the 8. S. Persia". He howver could get no further than St.Peters- -burg and was compelled to go on to England. He retumed to Hong- -kong on 16th. November, 1916.
5. He was a member of the German Club. He always calls "Steinwarder" home and he appears to be a German educated and
brought up Englishman.
